4 But the Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship threatened to break up. 5 Then the mariners were afraid, and each cried out to his god. And they hurled the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the inner part of the ship and had lain down and was fast asleep. 6 So the captain came and said to him, “What do you mean, you sleeper? Arise, call out to your god! Perhaps the god will give a thought to us, that we may not perish.” ESV
Jonah 1:4-6 Can you ever outrun your sin? Do the consequences of your sin ever affect those around you? We create a mess whenever we run from God. Our sin costs us far more than we imagine & hurts those we love the most. Jonah ran from God down to Tar-shish away from Nineveh. Now we find Jonah down in the ship. Jonah keeps ending up further & further in the dark as he runs from God whose righteousness is radiant light. The men of the ship-sailors-are deathly afraid of the storm & they rebuke & compel Jonah to inquire of his God in hopes of rescue. God was the cause of the storm & He can surely save. Jonah knew why the storm was upon them just as he knew he should have gone to Nineveh. Are you running from God? Repent & Follow Today!
