Psalm 51:1-6
1 Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
3 For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you may be justified in your words
and blameless in your judgment.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being,
and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. ESV
Psalm 51:1-6 Are you quick to say you are sorry? Do you look to resolve conflict & reconcile broken relationships? Do you recognize your faults & shortcomings? This Psalm is King David’s confession of repentance after his adulterous relationship with Bathsheba & his ultimate killing of her husband by sending him to front line of battle. The opening question’s fall short of asking you: what do you do with your sin? David knew he was guilty before a Holy God & that he needed God’s mercy. We all have sin before a Holy God & we deserve His wrath to be poured out in us. Our only hope is a substitute which God has provided. His name is Jesus. Jesus blood pays for our sin penalty & He provides us His righteousness. Do you believe you are a sinner? Do you believe Jesus is your only hope? David’s hope was in Jesus who was promised to come as ours is in the completed work of Jesus! Believe & Repent!
