Jonah Goes to Nineveh
3 Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.” 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey in breadth. 4 Jonah began to go into the city, going a day’s journey. And he called out, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” 5 And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them. ESV
Jonah 3:1-5 How well do you take correction? Did you/Do you have the freedom to fail? How is disobedience different from failure? Do you appreciate being given mercy & grace? Jonah finds himself on the shore of Nineveh-hopefully cleaned up a bit after being three days in the belly of a great fish. God sends him to go to the city with the message that they will be overrun in forty days. This is a large city. We are told it is a three day journey to walk across it so Jonah walks in a days walk and declares:Nineveh will be overrun in forty days. It says the people believed God & they put on sackcloth with ashes on their heads in humility & repentance. It took Jonah a journey-boat ride-storm & three days in a fish to finally obey. How quickly do you believe & obey?
